The Myth of Multitasking

Don't have enough time in the day to get everything done? Multitasking is your friend... or is it? Let's look at what the research says about your cognitive abilities when multitasking. You might be surprised to find that an eight-year-old has been writing your emails for you (watch the video to see what I mean).

A better way to get things done is to block out time on your calendar and focus on ONE THING AT A TIME. Maybe it's a big project you need to move forward, or maybe it's your email inbox that needs attention. Try breaking your whole day into chunks, schedule your biggest projects during times when you are most productive, and challenge yourself to stay on task.

When we are working alone (many of us from home) and flipping frantically between tasks, we imagine that we're getting so much done. But all we're getting is the illusion of productivity - not the real thing.
